MAURY ON 34TH STREET

I grew up in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. The area was predominantly Cuban, Dominican, and Puerto Rican, though all kinds of Latino cultures thrived alongside a Hasidic Jewish community in the Cabrini area.

I loved living there. Even now, after seeing other places, I feel deeply fortunate to have grown up there. It was rich in culture and community. You could find just about anything in that little corner of the world.

Although it was a low-income area, I never felt lack. I always had what I needed.
