Love In Light

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about inheritances — ancestors, the things we leave behind, the pieces of ourselves our loved ones carry forward.

PAINT BY NUMBERS

I’m so bad at staying inside the lines.

I used to love coloring and painting as a child. I was always trying to stay inside the lines but usually found ways to add more to the picture. I guess it’s the creative in me. Or the crazy in me. It truly depends on who is judging.

This particular piece reminds me of a song. I think most poetry does.

FAULT LINES

Lately I have been focused on a new project that has not allowed my brain to focus much on poetry. This piece, however, begged me to give it life.

A CHANGE IN TONE

Lately I’ve noticed myself drifting toward free‑verse poems that borrow the logic of fables — small creatures, sharp turns, a hint of darkness. The tone grew out of things I’ve been navigating in my own life, and instead of resisting it, I’ve started treating it as a new path worth following.

MAURY ON 34TH STREET

I grew up in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. The area was predominantly Cuban, Dominican, and Puerto Rican, though all kinds of Latino cultures thrived alongside a Hasidic Jewish community in the Cabrini area.

I loved living there. Even now, after seeing other places, I feel deeply fortunate to have grown up there. It was rich in culture and community. You could find just about anything in that little corner of the world.

Although it was a low-income area, I never felt lack. I always had what I needed.

THE RAW TRUTH OF MY POETRY

Most creatives say that self-expression should be raw, and yet so many of us are still afraid to go all in or mock other writers, artists, and creators when the work is not what they think it should be. This is especially true when we share with a large audience. Art isn’t meant to be polished; for me, that defeats its purpose. Art is subjective and should be felt, not judged. If you didn’t feel it, clearly it is not for you.

THE SOUND OF MEANING

Does it feel as though your written words sound more authentic than your spoken words at times?

Although I went to school in the United States, English is my second language. There are still some words I struggle to pronounce when I’m reading aloud.

THE SHAPE OF LOYALTY

Loyalty isn’t a fixed trait. It’s something we live into. It shifts as we shift. It asks us to listen closely, to grow honestly, and to choose alignment over obligation. Whether in love, friendship, family, or creativity, loyalty begins with knowing who we are—and honoring the values that define us. Even when it’s uncomfortable. Even when it costs us something.

Sometimes, even when it costs us everything.

CHANGING THE NARRATIVE

Changing The Narrative

Since childhood, I’ve loved fables and morality tales. I don’t usually write what I’d consider ‘dark’ poetry, but here’s one I believe fits that category.

Happy Spooky Season!

A REFLECTION ON AUTHENTICITY

Authenticity isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being anchored in who you are. In this reflection, I explore what it means to live with sincerity, self-respect, and the courage to love the self.

WELCOME

Welcome to my blog!

This space isn’t pinned to one purpose. Some words might be poetic, some personal, some that don’t quite fit anywhere else.

Some of it will be soft. Some of it won’t. There won’t be neat categories just curiosity and truth, as I see it.

Whatever this becomes, it will reflect where I am in the moment. If you’re looking for something honest, something human, maybe this will resonate.
